Hearing Aid Services
Hearing aids can be used for children of all ages. Hearing aids may be recommended as early as 2 months of age when hearing loss is diagnosed. In the U.S., most newborns have a hearing screening before they leave the hospital. If your baby does not pass the screening and follow-up tests show hearing loss that requires hearing aids, the audiologist will guide you through the process.
Hearing aids are designed to help individuals hear speech and environmental sounds more clearly.
If your child has hearing loss, your audiologist will work with them and your family to determine if hearing aids will be beneficial and if so, the type of hearing aid that will be most appropriate for your child’s hearing loss.
A hearing aid is a small electronic device that sits behind the ear. There are small microphones on the hearing aid that pick up sounds around it. Then the computer processor within the hearing aid processes the sound and sends it through the tubing/earmold to the child’s ear.
When your child begins to wear hearing aids, your pediatric audiologist will use a computer to set the hearing aids to your baby’s hearing levels. The audiologist will show you how the devices work and how to care for them.
