Your gift to The Melinda Webb School Scholarship Fund will significantly impact children’s lives because 42% of our students’ household incomes are at or below the federal poverty level, and 60% of the student body receives financial aid.
By donating to the Scholarship Fund, you will change the lives of children whose families cannot afford this highly specialized early childhood education that prepares them to enter mainstream schools by first grade.
You can start making a difference in a preschooler’s life today by:
- Entering your credit card information here and selecting Melinda Webb School Scholarships in the ‘Campaign’ drop-down menu
- Mailing a check (write MWS Scholarship Fund in the memo section)
- Transferring stock (click here for instructions)
Named Scholarships
With a named scholarship, you will provide an enduring gift that changes the trajectories of children’s lives for years to come.
Scholarships that allow children with hearing loss to attend The Melinda Webb School can be the difference between flourishing and failing in mainstream schools.
For children with hearing loss, accelerating the development of listening and spoken language alongside academic skills requires highly specialized educators, individualized learning plans, state-of-the-art technology, and active parental involvement. Some students have complex medical needs, and their ongoing medical expenses, therapy costs, and caregiving responsibilities make it impossible for their families to afford full tuition.
With a gift of $50,000 or more, you can fund a named scholarship for The Melinda Webb School.
You may pay in full (credit card, check, transferred stock) or pledge to contribute over up to three years.
Thank you for investing in brighter futures for children who are deaf and hard of hearing! For more information or to initiate your named scholarship, please contact development@texashearing.org or 713-523-3634.
You don’t have to make a large donation to have a large impact.
Setting up a monthly recurring gift allows you to conveniently make a meaningful annual donation with manageable payments.
Your employer, your spouse’s employer, or your previous employer if you are retired, might double or even triple the amount of your donation, or make a cash donation based on time you volunteer at Texas Hearing Institute.
Please enter your company name in the box below or contact your Human Resource department to find out if your employer has a matching-gift program.

Through financial and estate planning opportunities, donors can give to Texas Hearing Institute through a planned gift. There are several ways to set up a planned gift that may allow you to receive a stream of income for life, earn higher investment yield, or reduce your capital gains or estate taxes.
You may donate and pay for event sponsorships with qualified charitable distributions from your IRAs as your required minimum distributions upon turning 72 ½. If instead you were to take the required minimum distributions as income, they would count as taxable income, which could push you into a higher tax bracket and reduce your eligibility for certain tax credits and deductions.
For example, your taxable income helps determine the amount of your Social Security benefits that are subject to taxes. Keeping your taxable income level lower may also help reduce your potential exposure to the Medicare surtax.
A qualified charitable distribution must adhere to requirements that include:
- You must be at least 70½ years old
- Funds must come out of your IRA by your required minimum distribution deadline
- Funds must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to Texas Hearing Institute by requesting the custodian issue a check from your IRA payable to Texas Hearing Institute
*Always seek the advice of your financial or tax adviser.
