Parent Conferences and Observations

All Melinda Webb School students are assessed three times per year and their levels in language and academic skills are shared with parents at parent conferences. At these conferences, teachers review present skill levels and progress and set goals with parents.

Parents are given the opportunity to observe their child in the classroom in the weeks leading up to each parent conference. These observations are beneficial to parents when setting goals for their child and to help parents see the progress their child is making in school.

Parents are required to attend three observations and three parent conferences per year. There is no school on parent conference days, as noted on the Melinda Webb School Calendar. Parent observations are scheduled with the teacher a few weeks prior to parent conferences.

Parent Teacher Organization

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a great way for families to get involved with the Melinda Webb School. Parents work together all school year with teachers to enrich the educational experience of our students. Through fundraising events, theme days, and academic support, parents stay engaged with our staff and involved with their child's development—both academically and socially.

To learn more about how to join our Parent Teacher Organization, please contact Sarai Velasquez at svelasquez@texashearing.org.

FAQs

What age students attend the Melinda Webb School?

The Melinda Webb school serves children ages 18 months - 6 years old.

What is the typical teacher-to-student ratio?

Language sessions occur in smaller groups of two to three students per teacher, because smaller ratios allow for more opportunities to practice listening and speaking skills. Academic sessions occur in larger groups well within the ratio required by day care regulations.

What are the school’s hours of operation?
  • Before School Care: 7 am - 8:30 am
  • Academic Day: 8:30 am - 3 pm
  • After School Care: 3 pm - 6 pm
What programs are available to the parents?

Parents of students who attend the Melinda Webb School can join the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our bilingual social worker provides counseling and organizes and facilitates parent support groups. Learn more about parent support groups here.

What is the cost of tuition, and is financial aid available?

Our goal is for any child, regardless of their family’s income, to be able to attend. So, tuition is offered on a sliding fee scale, based upon a family’s income. Due to the support from generous donors, the cost of tuition for any family is significantly lower than the cost to us of providing education to each child. Please contact Melinda Webb School for additional information regarding tuition.
