The Hear Forever Community is comprised of caring donors who choose to leave a personal legacy and investment towards the future of Texas Hearing Institute through financial and estate planning opportunities.
Through financial and estate planning opportunities, donors can give to Texas Hearing Institute through a planned gift. There are numerous legacy giving options that may allow you to receive a stream of income for life, earn a higher investment yield, or reduce your capital gains or estate taxes. Please seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor to select the best option for your goals.
If you have included us in your estate plans, please contact Mary Collins Raun, Director of Development at MCollinsraun@texashearing.org so that we can welcome you to the Hear Forever Community.
Include a gift to Texas Hearing Institute in your will or revocable trust by including language as part of your estate plan. You can designate that a bequest will be used for a general or specific purpose to be used as intended.
Sample Bequest Language:
"I, [name], of [city, state, Zip], give, devise, and bequeath to The Center for Hearing and Speech dba Texas Hearing Institute (EIN 74-6003178), of 3100 Shenandoah St. Houston, TX 77021, [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose."
“I, (name), of (city, state, Zip), give to The Center for Hearing and Speech dba Texas Hearing Institute (EIN 74-6003178), of 3100 Shenandoah St. Houston, TX 77021 , (written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property) to be used for its unrestricted use and general purposes.”
“I, (name), of (city, state, Zip), give to The Center for Hearing and Speech dba Texas Hearing Institute (EIN 74-6003178), of 3100 Shenandoah St. Houston, TX 77021 , (written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property) to be used for (state purpose).”
“I, (name), of (city, state, Zip), give to The Center for Hearing and Speech dba Texas Hearing Institute (EIN 74-6003178), of 3100 Shenandoah St. Houston, TX 77021 , all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for general purposes (or describe the specific purpose, if desired).”
“If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me or shall die during the administration of my estate or as a result of a common disaster, then I give The Center for Hearing and Speech dba Texas Hearing Institute (EIN 74-6003178), of 3100 Shenandoah St. Houston, TX 77021 , all of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for general purposes.”
“Should the fulfillment of the purpose of our gift become obsolete, inappropriate, or impracticable, as determined by the Board of Trustees, then our gift should be used for the purpose most in keeping with our special interests.”
If you are 70½ or older, you can make a contribution by authorizing an IRA charitable rollover gift. An IRA charitable rollover gift is a way you can make your annual gift tax-free (adjusted for tax-deductible contributions you may have made to your traditional IRA, if any, after age 70½).
You can contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to Texas Hearing Institute. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for charitable deduction.
If charitable giving is a part of your financial plan, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can be a great way to reduce required minimum distributions and optimize the tax benefits of giving.
QCDs allow individuals age 70½ and older to make tax-free donations directly from an IRA to a qualified charity. For tax year 2026, you can donate up to $111,000, and you can also use up to $55,000 of a QCD to make a one-time donation to a Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity.
You can designate Texas Hearing Institute as a beneficiary of your retirement, investment, or bank account of your life insurance policy. A beneficiary designation form can be provided by your retirement plan custodian. This will allow you to avoid potential estate tax on retirement assets, and your estate can benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift. To make a gift of life insurance, contact your provider and request a beneficiary designation form from the insurer and include Texas Hearing Institute as a beneficiary of your policy.
This giving strategy allows you to generate income and allows you to pursue philanthropic goals. You can make contributions to the trust and be eligible for a partial tax deduction based on the CRT’s assets that will pass to charitable beneficiaries. You can name yourself or someone else to receive a potential income stream for a term of years, no more than 20, or for the life of one or more non-charitable beneficiaries, and then name Texas Hearing Institute to receive the remainder of the donated assets.
There are two main types of Charitable Remainder Trusts:
- Charitable remainder annuity trusts distribute a fixed annuity amount each year, and additional contributions are not allowed.
- Charitable remainder unitrusts distribute a fixed percentage based on the balance of the trust assets (revalued annually), and additional contributions can be made.
Contributions to these trusts are an irrevocable transfer of assets to distribute a portion of income or principal to the donor or another beneficiary. Remaining trust assets can be distributed to Texas Hearing Institute at the end of the specified lifetime or term for the income interest.
