Join Us at Our Walk4Hearing!

September 10, 2024

Texas Hearing Institute’s Melinda Webb School students participating in Walk4Hearing event.

Every year, Texas Hearing Institute’s Melinda Webb School participates in the Hearing Loss Association of America’s (HLAA) Walk4Hearing event. It is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness and brings hope to people with hearing loss in 21 cities across the United States. Texas Hearing Institute is an official partner with Walk4Hearing, which means we receive 40% of the funds raised under our team. All funds directly benefit the Melinda Webb School to pay for classroom supplies, activities, and enrichment for our students throughout the year. Last year, we raised almost $10,000! And this year’s goal is to match or exceed that amount.

The purpose of the Walk4Hearing is to bring awareness and encouragement to families that are dealing with or know someone with hearing loss. Currently, one in seven Americans is impacted by some level of hearing loss, and one billion young people are at risk for noise-induced hearing loss. This number is expected to double by 2050. Our hearing health is an often-ignored part of our overall health, and HLAA and Texas Hearing Institute are working hard to ensure families receive the help and tools they need to reach their full potential. We need your help to bring awareness to the importance of better hearing health and increase access to hearing care to families and communities of all backgrounds.

The Walk4Hearing also helps bring teams of family and friends together to provide necessary information and resources. This provides a growing community to turn to when facing the challenges of hearing loss. This year’s walk takes place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the University of Houston’s The Grove. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 10:15 a.m.

To join our team, click here and follow the steps below:

  1. Select “Join Our Team” (every child and adult needs to register as a “walker”).
  2. When asked which nonprofit you would like to designate funds to, please select “Texas Hearing Institute.”
  3. You can then personalize your own page to share with your family and friends.

Please join us for this fun-filled event and connect with other families in our community who are also on their hearing loss journey. Attendees can enjoy activities for the kids, vendor booths, and opportunities to connect with past and present MWS families. Remember: the Walk4Hearing is 5K (3.1 miles), so please dress appropriately, pack your sunscreen, and bring your hats and sunglasses. Refreshments and pre-packaged snacks will also be available.

Come on out and help the Melinda Webb School’s team reach their goal, and encourage your loved ones to join and walk with us as we come together to empower, inspire, and celebrate people with hearing loss. We hope to see you all there!
